Sterling work by Aggregate Industries’ asphalt team leader Ross Turnbull has led him to receive a special award from highway service provider A-one+.

Mr Turnbull (pictured left alongside A-one+ managing director Andy Jamieson) was recognised for demonstrating collaborative behaviour with a roads team in the North East. He was honoured for “going above and beyond normal expectations” according to the judges in helping to manage the delivery of 81,000t of surfacing material by almost 500 trucks over 300 nights.

The award was made at the second annual A-one+ suppliers recognition ceremony, in Leeds. The company – a joint venture of Costain, Colas and CH2M Hill – maintains motorways and trunk roads across Northamptonshire, the East Midlands, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the North East.

Top honours also went to Lafarge Tarmac, which scooped the Customer Excellence award for devising effective strategies to reduce the impact of roadworks on motorists.

Highways firm Carnell received top prize in the Continual Improvement category for its work in driving down costs while improving safety and reducing disruption to the travelling public.

Humberside based company Lane Rentals was presented with the ‘Gearing for Growth’ award after purchasing new premises, planing machines and tippers and the extending its recycling centre in Hull.

First place in the Safe Working category went to infrastructure maintenance firm DBi Services for its commitment to safety training. Special mention was given to a three day closure of the company to deliver a series of seminars, workshops, assessments and training.

A-one+ operations director Stuart Cordier said: “We acknowledge that our success is a result of the close working partnerships we have with our suppliers and our awards have been designed to thank our suppliers.”
