More than 350 professionals came together to celebrate the outstanding projects and initiatives of the highways and transportation industry at last week’s CIHT Awards in London.
The 12th annual ceremony was hosted by broadcaster Bill Turnbull at the Troxy in Limehouse. Sixteen awards were presented on the night – including a new for 2017 CIHT Award recognising an overall winner – by President Steve Rowsell and other leading professionals.
The inaugural CIHT Award went to Sustainable Transport Award winners Integrated Transport Planning and Derby City Council for their project ‘Derby Connected – Travel Advice Service’. The initiative supports businesses and their employees to make sustainable travel choices.
President Steve Rowsell commented: “We are delighted to celebrate the excellent work both organisations are doing within the sector.”
The Institution received over 170 entries to the awards this year with 47 projects making it onto the final shortlist.
CIHT chief executive Sue Percy said: “The winning projects have demonstrated that the highways and transportation sector continues to produce first class, exceptional schemes that contribute to the growth of the transport community and society.
She added: “We would like to thank all those who submitted entries into this year’s Awards. The quality of projects continues to grow each year. We hope that this year’s entries will inspire even more organisations to enter the Awards next year.”
A more detailed report on the CIHT Awards 2017 is included in the June issue of TP which arrives on desks this week.
