On 16 and 17 June, delegates gathered for the Society of Road Safety Auditors (SoRSA) Annual Conference 2025 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport.

Across the two days, more than 170 delegates attended the conference to hear a range of talks from experts in the role of road safety and road safety audit with opportunity for participation as delegates took part in interactive workshops, Q&A sessions and panel discussions.

Following delegate registration and lunch, day one kicked off with a warm welcome and address from SoRSA Chair, Eric Hill. Our first guest speakers Kate Carpenter & Stelios Rodoulis looked at the work being undertaken by the Bus Centre for Excellence and held an interactive workshop exploring the infrastructure, accessibility and user requirements for buses.

Next up, was James Hawkes and Abi Ferris from WSP, who led a session on Smart Motorway incident and a workshop considering how events on a Smart Motorway would be signed with input from National Highways on the protocols and procedures they use.

 

Before the evening dinner, the SoRSA Annual General Meeting 2025 was held to elect its committee for the year ahead and look back at the successes of the previous year. Libby Sands and Miguel-Angel Serrano Santos were elected to the Chair and Vice-chair respectively, and there was a special moment as Chair of our Spanish colleagues ASEVI, Francisco Javier López Delgado, presented a gift to SoRSA commemorating 10 years of collaboration.

The opening day concluded with an evening dinner, providing the opportunity to network and meet colleagues from across the sector.

 

 

 

Day two was opened by newly elected Chair, Libby Sands, followed by a Presidential address from Professor Glenn Lyons. Glenn awarded three Honorary Fellowships of SoRSA to Sue Percy, John Barrell and Stuart Kay. 

Session one of the day, began with a presentation from Alan Hiscox from the British Horse Society, followed by presentations on the Kilcullen Road Active Travel Scheme from Donal Hodgins and CIHT’s Inclusive Travel for All paper from Antoneta Horbury. 

 

After the break session 2 was opened by Pete Cattrell who discussed Smart Crossing and Sign Technology, followed by Stuart Guthrie of Sweco UK Ltd on his presentation ‘Get a Grip’. After lunch, the afternoon sessions of day two was hosted by newly elected Vice-Chair Miguel-Angel Serrano Santos. 

Session three had thought provoking talks from Jamiee Boutcher-Hann of WSP on Gender Issues in Design and Phil Jones on Speed Limits Wales.

Session 4, the final session of conference, had a presentation from Javier Lopez Delgado of ASEVI and Miguel-Angel Serrano Santos on a Decade of Action following the AGM’s commemoration of a decade of collaboration. Conference concluded with an Introduction to CIHT Learn from CIHT’s Carrie Playford and final words Miguel-Angel Serrano Santos.
