Session 1, 'How Cities Are Addressing Climate Change', led by Zeina Nazer, Co-Founder, CITIES FORUM, it was debated whether

  • Is their a  balance between individual choices, corporate policy and regulation/legislation? And where is the balance between mitigating climate change and reducing climate change?
  • The lockdown as a consequence of the COVID-10 pandemic may be an opportunity to change behaviour, concering space reallocation, active travel, and WFH
  • and much more

Session 2, 'Essential Science For A Climate Emergency', led by Mike Childs, Head of Science Policy & Research, Friends of the Earth, debated some of the below points:

  • Whether the 2050 Net Zero target is meaningless if there is no roadmap with milestone targets on the path to it
  • Whether the £28bn RIS2 should be used on investments in green transport
  • and much more

Session 3, 'How Do We Meet The Carbon Budget?', led by The Baroness Brown of Cambridge DBE FREng FRS Julia King, Chair, Committee on Climate Change, also chairing CIHT’s Climate Change Panel, debated whether:

  • Need to think of it as an environmental AND economic opportunity. For transport the economic opportunity/cost savings in the future far outweigh the capital costs of switching.
  • The role of road pricing in the future
  • The importance of carbon budgets in ensuring we meet the targets on the way.
  • and much more

Session 4, 'Carbon: The Cost Of Tomorrow', led Vanessa Hilton, Head of Carbon & Environment, FM Conway Ltd, explored some of the following issues:

  • The need to get away from thought that recycled materials are inferior. They are not
  • The importance of upfront investment and collaboration
  • and much more

 

Session 5, 'A Pathway To Net Zero', by Andrew Crudgington, Climate Change Associate, CIHT, discussed:

  • The role of CIHT as a leader in the sector 
  • The need to think about the carbon agenda holistically and systematically - it impacts on many areas from planning, place, construction etc.
  • and much more
