The event in east London on 1 April will hear from chief officers and technical specialists from the STBs about the power to unlock local infrastructure against the backdrop of the global climate emergency.

Issues set to be discussed include the Major Road Network, the latest national road investment strategy (RIS2), the future of freight, east-west connectivity and High Speed 2.

STBs are a central tenet of the Department for Transport’s strategy to improve regional connectivity, future proof the transport network and support economic growth across England. There are now seven STBs: England’s Economic Heartland, Midlands Connect, Peninsula Transport, Transport East, Transport for the North, Transport for the South East and Western Gateway.

Whether you are part of the transport supply chain, planning sector, or you just want to know what a sustainable transport system might look like in practice – there is a lot to learn and interact with as these STBs research, develop and articulate their long term transport strategies for England’s regions.

Also at the CIHT Spring Conference – titled ‘Vision 2030’ – will be a focus on electric and autonomous mobility and the design of future infrastructure. Speakers include Dr George Gillespie of HORIBA MIRA, Baroness Brown of Cambridge from the Committee on Climate Change and Mike Wilson from Highways England.
