140409_A14_224East Anglia residents have 10 weeks to air their views on planned improvements to the A14 between Cambridge and Huntingdon.

This latest consultation follows a round of public engagement on a series of scheme options last autumn, and a decision by Government in December not to toll the A14. A preferred route has now been worked up for the £1.5Bn scheme which will see a new 20km southern bypass of Huntingdon built, existing carriageway widened, and several junctions upgraded.

Part of the A1 between Brampton and Alconbury to the west of the scheme is also to be improved, from a dual two to a dual three lane carriageway.

“This is a vital scheme that will deliver benefits for Cambridgeshire and those who regularly use the A14,” said Highways Agency project director Ian Parker. “This consultation forms part of the planning process, so it is an important opportunity for everyone with an interest in this scheme to get involved and to let us know what they think.”

Comments are welcome to an online survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/BVV759J and more than 30 events will take place across Cambridgeshire in the coming weeks to promote the plans.

The next step is for a development consent order application to be made this autumn and a report to the Secretary of State is due in autumn 2015. A decision is expected within two years from now and works could begin by the end of 2016.
