The CIHT Awards 2019 open for submission

The annual CIHT Awards are a celebration of the highways and transportation industry. Now in their fourteenth year, there are 16 award categories across diverse sectors and markets within the industry including major multi-modal Infrastructure projects, road, rail and aviation. We have also introduced three new awards for Team of the Year, International Project and Planning for Transport!

The awards provide an opportunity to reward the remarkable achievements of those working across the public and private sectors as clients and contractors to demonstrate evidence of the highest professional standards, capabilities and best practice to a wider industry audience.

Shortlisted finalists across all categories will be advised by the end of April 2019. The CIHT Awards 2019 winners will be announced at a Ceremony taking place at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London on Thursday 13 June 2019.

CIHT is recognised as one of the leading industry membership organisations by our members, our private and public sectors partners, senior government decision makers and the media. The Institution and the CIHT Awards stand for excellence and innovation in knowledge transfer, education and continuing professional development.

The following 16 category submissions close at 23:59 on Friday 1 March 2019:

  1. CIHT Health and Wellbeing Award recognises those that have made an outstanding contribution to the health, safety and wellbeing of employees across the highways and transportation sector.

  2. CIHT Skills and Training Award recognises employers who have demonstrated excellence in career skills development for their highways and transportation staff.

  3. CIHT Team of the Year Award 2019 is a new award is aimed at celebrating the achievements of teams working within organisations in the Highways and Transportation sector. Separate awards will be made for entries from the public, private and education sector.

  4. CIHT Transportation Professional of the Year Award 2019 recognises a CIHT member who has made an excellent contribution to the Highways and Transportation profession this year and demonstrates the values of CIHT.

  5. CIHT Asset Management Award celebrates the achievements of asset management professionals, teams and organisations working in the highways and transportation sector.
  6. CIHT Collaboration Award recognises those that have shown dedication to working in collaboration with other teams, organisations and/or sectors to deliver real solutions.

  7. CIHT Creating Better Places Award recognises how outstanding design and implementation of schemes in our towns and cities improve the places around them.

  8. CIHT Diversity and Inclusion Award recognises those who have created an environment where individuals from all walks of life feel welcome, can do their best work, and thrive.
  9. CIHT International Project Award recognises outstanding examples of highways and transportation infrastructure or services from outside the UK and Ireland which have made major contributions.

  10. CIHT Major Project Award recognises outstanding examples of transportation or highway projects that have made major contributions to the accessibility and transport choices at the regional or national level.

  11. CIHT Planning for Transport Award recognises the value of transport planning in achieving positive outcomes for the benefit of the public, in creating new communities or on reducing the impact of transport on communities.

  12. CIHT Public Transport Award recognises the contribution of public transport to social, economic and environmental sustainability.

  13. CIHT Road Safety Award, in memory of John Smart, recognises outstanding achievements which improve road user safety through excellent practice, design and technical application.

  14. CIHT Sustainability Award recognises projects or strategies delivered or developed by the highways and transportation industry that can demonstrate a contribution to sustainable working practices and that have created environmental benefits with either a global or local impact.

  15. CIHT Transport Technology Award recognises technological innovation in the industry, this could be in terms of research, machinery, products, software or data analysis.

  16. CIHT Walking and Cycling Award recognises the contribution of active travel to social, economic and environmental sustainability.
