The North West Region's ninth Annual Awards Dinner was held at the Park Royal Hotel, Stretton on Friday, 15th April 2016.  The event was well supported, with numbers higher than the previous year, and we have received a great deal of positive feedback from those who attended, and who clearly had a most enjoyable evening.

We were joined by the Institution's Vice President, Andreas Markides and the Director of Policy and Technical Affairs, Andrew Hugill, as well as representatives from neighbouring Regions and CECA.  The toast to the Institution was proposed by Dave Wright, the Executive Director for Kier Highways, and the toast to the Guest was proposed by Keith Patterson, a long-standing member of CIHT and former Branch Chairman.  Les Gibson, the impressionist and TV personality replied on behalf of the guests.

The award submissions were up to the usual high standard, and there was healthy competition in all four categories.  This gave the judges, Steve Kent and Keith Patterson, plenty to think about and the winners in each of the four categories were:

  • Best Practice Project of the Year - Regional Growth Fund Project, Leeds Street, Liverpool – submitted by Liverpool City Council, Amey and King Construction
  • Environmental/Sustainability Project of the Year - Working with Nature on the Strategic Road Network – submitted by Kier Highways
  • Safety Project of the Year - EziCat – submitted by Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald
  • Transportation Project of the Year - Crewe Green Link Road – submitted by Morgan Sindall

The judges had made recommendations for Commendations in all categories, and these were also presented on the night.

Arrangements are being made for the 2017 Awards Dinner, and it will be held on Friday, 28th April, again at the Park Royal Hotel.  Further information and Guidelines for Award Submissions will be available soon.
