A key part of the tour, which took place in an interactive exhibition space in the SC’s headquarters at Al Bidda Tower, covered the construction progress and planned utilisation of tournament transport infrastructure including the Doha Metro; tram networks; public buses; expressways; and Hamad International Airport. It was highlighted that much of the transport infrastructure that will be used during the FIFA World Cup™ was already planned prior to Qatar winning the right to host the tournament in 2010, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 that was launched in 2008.

The tour also included progress updates from each of the eight proposed FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ stadiums. As well as the already completed 40,000-seater Khalifa International Stadium, the group was shown scale models and given key facts about Al Wakrah Stadium, Al Rayyan Stadium, Education City Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Ras Abu Aboud Stadium and Al Bayt Stadium – Al Khor City, as well as the final venue to be revealed, Lusail stadium.

The stadiums are designed by some of the world's leading architects with some of the most ambitious yet practical venues ever conceived. The stadiums will be unique, and designed to reflect Qatar's rich culture and history. Each stadium is being built with comfortaccessibilitysustainability and legacy as four priorities.

In addition to ensuring the infrastructure required to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ is delivered, the SC is charged with ensuring the tournament leaves a lasting legacy, stemming from the State of Qatar’s vision for the tournament to leave a positive impact across the region and create opportunities for its people long after the final ball is kicked in 2022. Among the programmes and commitments discussed during the visit were Workers’ Welfare, Challenge 22, Generation Amazing, Community Engagement and the Josoor Institute.

SCDL welcomes two groups of visitors from CIHT Qatar to The Road to 2022 Tour- March 2019.
