Heathrow expansion
During Labour’s administration, several prominent Tory MPs were opposed a third runway at Heathrow Airport, and attended regular meetings in Parliament over the matter. They included Mrs May, whose Maidenhead constituency is close to the west London airport. She raised concerns about noise, night flights and climate targets — while accusing Gordon Brown’s government of “dithering” over a decision.

Her ascent makes it increasingly likely that third runway could be scrapped. Also in regular attendance at those meetings was Justine Greening, MP Secretary for Education, who — having campaigned for Mrs May as leader. Philip Hammond, Chancellor of the Exchequer prefers the expansion of Gatwick to Heathrow.

Mrs May, on the other hand, is in favour of the High Speed 2 rail link.
