Limited places are still available to participate in CIHT’s Learned Society lecture on 19 April, which this year focuses on the theme ‘Transport, cities and places’.

The free to attend evening event at University College London will feature insights from leading international experts explaining how to put people at the heart of building better places.

CIHT President Andreas Markides will chair the event and is to be joined by speakers Henriette Vamberg of architecture firm Gehl, and professors Nick Tyler and Peter Jones from UCL.

Henriette Vamberg is a partner and managing director of Gehl based in Copenhagen. She leads the firm’s work focused on city transformations including projects across Europe, in the USA, Russia, India, Australia and New Zealand. She graduated from Jan Gehl’s Urban Design Department and his methodology is embedded in her approach.

Nick Tyler CBE is UCL’s chadwick professor of civil engineering. His work focuses on the ways in which people interact with their immediate environments and was responsible for setting up an accessibility research group within the university’s Centre for Transport Studies. He is also the director of the UCL CRUCIBLE Centre for interdisciplinary research on lifelong health and wellbeing.

Peter Jones OBE is professor of transport and sustainable development in the Centre for Transport Studies at UCL. His research interests range from traveller attitudes and behaviour to advances in urban street planning and design. He co-chairs the DfT’s Joint Analysis Development Panel and has advised the European Commission and several national and city governments around the world.

The Learned Society 2018 event looks to encourage an exchange of ideas between highway engineers, architects, planners and members of the public, and includes a question and answer session with the panel.
