130130_Traffex_450New feature at this year’s Traffex exhibition is to be a special darkened indoor display area where retro reflective and directly illuminated traffic signing will be displayed in street-lit, unlit and dimmed conditions so visitors can gauge the full effects of the products.

The ‘Lighting the way’ area is intended to capture the essence of typical urban and rural street scenes. It has been organised in conjunction with Traffex by the Retroflective Equipment Manufacturers Association (REMA), the Institution of Lighting Professionals, leading transport consultant Mott MacDonald and best practice design company UK Roads.

The Traffex initiative is intended to help visitors understand the changes instigated in the Department for Transport’s (DfT) recent traffic signs policy paper ‘Signing the way’ which addresses how traffic signs will be illuminated in the future.

In the ‘Lighting the way’ area at Traffex highways professionals will be able to see for themselves the difference between previous requirements and the proposed way forward.

UK Roads chief Andy Pledge said: “This is an exciting project. As REMA secretary I want to be able to show the benefits that retro reflective products bring to road safety and how these products fit within the contents of the DfT’s policy paper.”

Traffex exhibition director Bill Butler commented: “‘Lighting the way’ is a great opportunity to add a new ‘live’ dimension to the event. This space will become a regular feature at Traffex and will have a new theme each time that will keep the exhibition fresh and engaging for visitors and exhibitors alike.”

Traffex 2013, the 26th international traffic engineering, road safety and highways maintenance exhibition takes place at the NEC in Birmingham on 16-18 April in conjunction with Parkex, Europe’s largest dedicated parking exhibition.
