How Traffic Regulation Orders (TRS) are made, how they are accessed and how they are used across the country is currently being investigated by The Department for Transport, supported by Geoplace.

Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) are used to implement a wide range of changes on the road network including; changing signs, changing speed limits, implementing parking restrictions, temporary road closures and more.

With the results of the survey they aim to produce a free guide helping local authorities adopt best practices around TROs,  enhance understanding, and to support the development of apps and connected vehicles.

This is part of the government's Industrial Strategy Grand Challenge "The future of mobility" and will aim to address key points, including;

• TRO data is difficult and time consuming to access, clean and process,
• TRO data is not in a standardised, machine readable format,
• TROs lack of centralised point of reference,
• Private sector organisations are being forced to collect TRO data manually, and

The current process for amending and implementing a TRO is labour intensive, time consuming, and costly and if you have experience in the matter CIHT encourage you to fill out the survey.
