Today (22/07/2019) Transport for New Homes, who campaign for better transport planning, launched their checklist for new housing developments. Arguing that too many new developments in the UK are built solely around car usage, with too few opportunities for cycling, walking or using public transport they have set out a list of 10 key areas where change needs to happen.
Lead author Tim Pharoah FCIHT said "Our country desperately needs more homes, but these must be located and designed to ensure that residents do not need cars to live a full life.”
The checklist can be used by local authorities, developers and neighbourhood groups alike to identify transportation issues with housing plans, consider how such plans can be improved, or argue why they should be rejected altogether.
You can read more about the checklist at this link or the original Transport for New Homes report at this link. CIHT will also soon be publishing its own advice on 'Better planning, better transport, better places' and you can read more here.
The checklist itself can be found here.
