The transportation sector has been voted one of the best in Britain when it comes to career development and job satisfaction according to a new poll of graduates.
Confidential career review site TheJobCrowd.com asked 3000 graduates in their first three years of employment to score their company on a range of criteria including responsibility, progression opportunities, colleague interaction, training, work-life balance and benefits.
The sector came second in the UK for both career progression and overall role enjoyment and also scored particularly highly for colleague interaction and company culture.
Transportation clients Network Rail, Tube Lines, Transport for London and Arriva all featured strongly in the list of 100 top graduate employers behind British Airways which topped the ratings for the industry.
BAM Construct, Steer Davies Gleave, Amey, Mott MacDonald, Balfour Beatty, AkzoNobel, Siemens, Costain, Mace and Thales, all companies servicing the transportation field, also received favourable reviews from graduates.
Nearly all of those polled (96%) said they would definitely choose to take on the same the role again which reflects extremely positively on their employers.
Firms from 17 different industries were included in the list with IT, advertising, property, accountancy, banking, retail, law, engineering, transport and media particularly well represented. Highest scoring sector overall was IT.
Graduates were asked to comment on the realities of their day to day roles rather than predict how their careers would develop – which differs from other graduate recruitment studies, according to the Job Crowd.
“The transport industry came second overall for career progression and role enjoyment, which shows that graduates joining the industry can expect to have a good time and develop quickly if they’re willing to put the work in early on,” the company’s co-founder Keren Mitchell said.
“We spoke to thousands of graduates and have found that the industry as a whole is one with great colleague relationships and positive company cultures and as such is certainly attractive to ambitious university leavers.”
