CIHT attended the launch of the Trees in the Townscape, a Guide for Decision Makers on 26 June 2012.  The new guide on urban trees is aimed at influencing those making the decisions that shape neighbourhoods in towns and cities.

The guide provides 12 principles branching across a range of planning, design, works and management issues. The guide includes 34 case studies providing examples of the principles in action, giving insight into best practice from all over England including Birmingham, Bristol, Hackney, Islington, Leeds, Newcastle, Oxford, Plymouth, Torbay, and Sefton.

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Norman Baker addressed the launch via video link where he also took time to highlight Manual for Streets 1 & CIHT’s own Manual for Streets 2 document. Norman praised the radical approach to street design within these documents, both recognising the valuable part played by trees in our daily lives, benefiting individuals and society as a whole.

A copy of the document is available to download from the TDAG website here.
