Councils wishing to install Trixi mirrors to improve safety for cyclists at busy junctions will no longer need permission from the Department for Transport (DfT).

Ministers have issued a national authorisation for local highways authorities wanting to install the mirrors as part of efforts to make cyclists more visible to lorry and bus drivers. The decision was taken after Transport for London (TfL) trialled the use of the mirrors on its cycle superhighways in 2010, before extending the rollout to key cycle routes last year.
