130627LegoBigFive London Underground maps made from Lego have gone on display at stations around the capital to mark the Tube’s 150 year anniversary.

Among the five maps is one at King’s Cross St Pancras station (pictured), showing how the network is set to look in 2020. Those familiar with the Underground map will spot the inclusion of Crossrail running from west to east. But look closely and you should be able to make out the Northern Line extension to Battersea and the proposed Croxley Rail link to the North West near Watford.

A second Tube map made from the children’s building blocks can be seen at South Kensington station, which is showing an interpretation of the Tube’s 1927 map. Piccadilly Circus is showcasing a version of Harry Beck’s iconic 1933 map and Green Park is displaying London Underground’s 1968 map. Stratford is showing a version of the 2013 map.

“We hope this fun map will inspire the young engineers of the future to help deliver our vision of new stations and rail links,” said London Underground’s design and heritage manager Mike Ashworth about the 2020 map on display at Kings Cross St Pancras.

Each map contains over 1000 Lego pieces and took four days to build. The five maps will be on show at the stations throughout the summer before being displayed at the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden.
