Transportation investment from the UK can play a significant role in helping developing countries to grow their economies, delegates to the 25th World Road Congress heard on Tuesday.
British Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Charles Hay told visitors to the UK Pavilion at the show in Seoul that firms from the UK are well placed to assist other countries in addressing their transport challenges and providing solutions.
He said that transport infrastructure can help developing countries to grow, trade and provide access and also offer opportunities where they did not exist before.
UK firms showcasing their abilities at the World Road Congress include Atkins, Arup, Mouchel, Kier and ReCAP.
The Department for Transport and other UK Government departments and agencies are also working to raise the profile of UK companies and their transport expertise at the five day World Road Congress, which concludes on Friday. You can follow developments on Twitter via #UKTransportExpertise
The Congress has the title ‘Roads and Mobility - Creating New Value from Transport’ and brings together thousands of highway professionals and 122 member governments of the World Road Association.
The UK's participation at the event is organised by the CIHT, which is the secretariat of WRA UK.
Andrew Boyle, chairman of WRA UK said: “The 25th World Road Congress provides a great opportunity for the UK. We are contributing speakers and expertise to a number of the sessions at the Congress, as well as through discussions with colleagues old and new on how to make the organisation work more efficiently and effectively.
“The UK has a long history with the Association, and our presence – focused around the meeting place at the UK Pavilion – really does show that we have a huge wealth of transport expertise to offer the world and this is being recognised by the number of those coming to discuss issues and their concerns with us.”
