University of Hong Kong's Master of Transport Planning and Policy becomes only the second programme outside the UK to meet the knowledge requirements for the Transport Planning Professional qualification.

The University of Hong Kong's (HKU) Master of Transport Planning and Policy (MTP&P) programme has been approved as meeting the knowledge requirements for the Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualification.
The approval, granted by the TPP Professional Standards Committee, is a significant achievement for HKU and strengthens the international reach of the transport planning professional qualification. It means graduates of the programme can use their master's degree to demonstrate the underpinning transport planning knowledge required on their journey towards becoming a Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP).
As transport systems worldwide face growing challenges around decarbonisation, urban growth, accessibility and technological change, developing the next generation of transport planners has never been more important. The approval recognises the quality of HKU's programme and its alignment with the standards expected of professional transport planners.
Tom van Vuren, Chair of the TPP Professional Standards Committee, said:
"It is always a pleasure to assess a submission by a university to be accredited as meeting the educational requirements for the Transport Planning Professional qualification. After the Technical University of Dublin, Hong Kong University is now the second successful university outside the UK, delivering what was assessed by the Professional Standards Committee as an excellent MSc in Transport Planning and Policy. Congratulations to Professor Becky Loo and her team."
The Professional Standards Committee undertook a detailed review of the programme, including course content, learning outcomes and discussions with the university team. The panel concluded that the programme provides students with a strong foundation in the knowledge and understanding expected of transport planning professionals.

The approval reflects HKU's commitment to delivering high-quality transport planning education and supporting students as they develop the expertise needed to shape the future of transport. It also highlights the growing global recognition of the TPP qualification as a benchmark for professional competence in transport planning.
TPP is the professional qualification for transport planners, jointly delivered by the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) and the Transport Planning Society (TPS). It recognises practitioners who can demonstrate the knowledge, skills, experience and professional judgement needed to deliver effective transport solutions.
