Public transport users in the West Midlands are being encouraged to sign up to a trial of a new intelligent journey planning application. The ‘MyJrny’ app is being developed by public transport operator Centro and technology firm Enable ID.
The system combines travellers’ own unique journey plans with real time network information to help them avoid disruption and overcrowding. It also allows transport operators to make better use of available network capacity.
The app covers all modes of public transport as well as walking, cycling and driving; providing personalised travel advice before people set out and on route.
“Unlike existing route and journey apps it is much more specific for your journey and can actually predict what you might need to know as it can pull in information from things like your phone’s diary,” said Chris Thompson of the technology firm.
“As well as sources such as Highways England and National Rail it also draws on sensors in and around public spaces used to detect footfall in places such as bus and train stations, air quality and even noise pollution.
“It interprets people’s data, reason for travelling and transport requirements to save them time, money and improve their overall travel experience.”
Centro director of integrated mobility Chris Perry added: “We are very excited about this app because it offers the user a comprehensive package of information that is unique to them.”
