CIHT is seeking the views of their members views for our formal response to the Armitt Review on long term infrastructure planning. The review, commissioned by the Labour Party in October 2012 will focus on whether a new institutional structure can be established that better enables the long term decision making necessary for strategic infrastructure planning.It will also look at how political consensus can be forged around these decisions.

 

In addition, Armitt has issued a detailed call for evidence seeking input in the following areas:

1) What are the failings and consequences of previous and existing decision making and planning mechanisms?

2) What can be learned from institutional structures established overseas to promote long term infrastructure planning?

3) What lessons can be learnedfrom the success of the London Olympics and Paralympics?

4) What would be an appropriate remit and planning horizon for an independent infrastructure commission?

5) How can cross party consensus best be achieved?

6) Where should the members of an independent commission be drawn from and how should it interact with government and parliament?
