The event takes place in February 2022 and abstracts need to be put forward before the end of November this year.

Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously by PIARC’s technical committees and authors will be notified if their proposal has been accepted by 15 March, with full papers required by July.

The event will be the 16th edition of the International Winter Road Congress which has run every four years since 1969. It has historically represented an opportunity to discuss subjects such as traffic management, pavement conditions, de-icing agents, equipment and providing information to users.

The theme of resilience has been added to the 2022 congress schedule in recognition of the fact that resilience of roads and transport services is a priority for the association’s members who have to deal with deteriorating infrastructure, budget constraints and adverse climate events.

CIHT’s Senior Policy Officer Justin Ward urged those involved in winter maintenance and resilience to submit an abstract. He added: “The UK wants to be able to bring its leading knowledge and expertise to the world stage on managing highways when faced with harsh winters and resilience challenges.”
