Talented female engineers and managers lead a comprehensive list of transportation professionals to be recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
High Speed 2’s managing director for phase two Alison Munro has been awarded a CBE for services to the rail industry; Crossrail former project manager Linda Miller (of Bechtel, pictured left) receives an OBE for services to engineering and promoting diversity; and Great Britain’s former senior traffic commissioner Beverley Bell is recognised with a CBE.
Cycle safety champion Emily Brooke (pictured right), whose company Blaze developed the ‘Laserlight’ which projects a green bicycle symbol ahead of an oncoming rider, is to receive an MBE.
“It was a massive shock and a huge honour,” Emily told TP Weekly News on hearing she is named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. “It is also an acknowledgement of the hard work of my team.”
Sandwell Council’s road safety and parking principal officer Anjna Patel, a director with the British Parking Association, receives an MBE. “It is a great honour to be recognised,” she said. “My job in parking and road safety does throw up challenges; my particular pet hates are parents who park inconsiderately outside schools and people and who misuse blue badges. I will carry on to try to educate people to park safely and legally.”
St Pancras International Station’s commercial director Wendy Spinks is awarded an OBE for services to rail; and Transport for London’s human resources and redeployment adviser Patricia Thomas receives an MBE for services to transport in London and the community.
Other honours went to Birmingham Airport’s chief executive Paul Kehoe who receives a CBE; University of Bristol’s visiting professor in civil engineering Richard Taylor who receives an MBE; and High Speed 2’s hybrid bill delivery director Roger Hargreaves who receives an MBE.
CIHT chief executive Sue Percy commented: “We are pleased to see the work of our industry being recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours. It is good to see that we have seen a number of transportation professionals being rewarded for their activity around diversity and inclusion and we will continue to push this key agenda.”
