In the recent CIHT Membership Survey a clear outcome of the survey was the importance and value of leadership skills to the sector. Gordon Baker of RTC Leadership & Coaching (CIHT’s first Approved Training Provider) is developing a series of online focus groups to inform a Masterclass programme for CIHT members on leadership to further expand the institution’s training and personal development offer.
We want to invite you to be part of the focus groups with Gordon.
Possible topics of discussion might be:
- What do you expect of leaders in the transport sector?
- Can you name some examples of people you regard as leaders?
- What qualities and skills do these leaders demonstrate?
- Thinking of your own career development, have you undertaken any training in leadership skills? And has this impacted on your career in any way?

Gordon Baker is a current Fellow of CIHT, having been involved in CIHT activities throughout his career. CIHT has played an important role in Gordon’s professional journey. His early involvement at branch level saw him provide contributions to the organising groups for the then Annual National Conference, which was a two-day event run by IHT in Scotland in the early 1980s. In later years, in addition to serving on the branch committee as Secretary and Chair, Gordon was also a contributing author on a number of CIHT technical guidance publications. More recently, Gordon has served on the Board of Appian Trading Limited including as Chair, as a Trustee Director on the CIHT Board of Trustees, and as a member of the Governance Review Group.
