In a change to the ‘traditional’ format, the conference will be followed by the Civic Reception and Presidential Dinner in Brighton city centre. The Civic Reception, hosted by the Mayor of Brighton, will be held in the world famous Royal Pavilion in Brighton. Built for George, Prince Regent, at the turn of the 19th century, the Royal Pavilion is remarkable for its exotic oriental appearance both inside and out. This magnificent royal pleasure palace was revered by fashionable Regency society and is still a distinctive landmark for vibrant Brighton & Hove today. The Royal Pavilion is home to some of the finest collections and examples of the chinoiserie style in Britain.
The Presidential Dinner will be held in the Corn Exchange, a couple of minutes walk from the Royal Pavilion within the Pavilion grounds. The Corn Exchange was built at the same time as the Dome Concert Hall and was originally the Prince Regent's riding house. Towards the end of the 19th century, the Corn Exchange was used as an archaeological and geological museum. It is now a unique and versatile venue with a magnificent single span of arched ceiling and a sprung maple floor. It was lovingly restored as part of the recent Brighton Dome refurbishment project.
