The CIHT FUTURES project - Future Uncertainty in Transport – Understanding and Responding to an Evolving Society – continues to move forward.  CIHT’s Director of Policy and Technical Affairs, Andrew Hugill gives an update:

“Following a series of workshops across the UK and across the CIHT regions there has been an enormous amount of work undertaken in analysing the feedback from these events.  Professor Glenn Lyons has delivered an excellent report on time which we aim to launch before the summer.

Since the last update in March, following the conclusion of the workshops, I am delighted that Glenn’s work in this field has been recognised by an international academic journal.  His report (with Cody Davidson) ‘Guidance for transport planning and policymaking in the face of an uncertain future’ was just recently published.  This adds further recognition of the importance of this work and I am delighted that CIHT has been involved in sharing the concepts with its members.  

One of the recommendations is that the CIHT FUTURES website content (www.ciht.org.uk/futures) is further developed.  This will be the place to look and we will continue to update this.

We will also be holding a small number of exploratory workshops with key external stakeholders starting in June.  This will explain what CIHT FUTURES is and what the key findings and recommendations are.  Most crucially, it will open up the dialogue into what the implications are for the profession in how we collectively face the future.  The report, as mentioned, will be published this before summer".
