Every year, CIHT carries out a review of a randomly selected group of our valued members’ CPD records. Those selected will receive an email titled “Action Needed – CPD Annual Review”, and they will be asked to provide their 2025 CPD record and their Development Action Plans (DAP) for the current year (2026) and for the year behind (2025).
To remain compliant with the CIHT Code of Conduct, selected members must respond with their records showing they have completed 25 hours of CPD including some focussed on transport decarbonisation.
Further guidance on the annual CPD review process can be found in our CPD guide.
If you are selected for the CPD review this year, please make your submission before Friday 19 June 2026 to the email address: professionaldevelopment@ciht.org.uk
If you’re selected for the CPD review but are on maternity leave or are now retired, please e-mail professionaldevelopment@ciht.org.uk, or telephone 020 4526 9848 to let us know your circumstances. We are here to help you.
CIHT offers a range of CPD tools, opportunities and resources to help our members plan, record and enhance their professional development. For example:
Our digital learning platform, CIHT Learn is designed to support our members to plan, identify, undertake, record and maintain their CPD record, which can be downloaded from the platform and emailed to us at the email address: professionaldevelopment@ciht.org.uk; making compliance even easier for you.
CIHT Learn offers over 100 hours of CPD that is free to members, which have been designed to support the development of highways and transportation professionals and includes helpful tools such as the DAP and SWOT analysis functions. Check out this free to member ‘Your CPD course’ on CIHT Learn for more information. https://cihtlearn-lms.org.uk/course/view.php?id=38
Members can use this guidance to select one or more topics that are most relevant to your current role, long-term goals, and /or the challenges you expect to face over the coming years.
CIHT events such as workshops, webinars and conferences, offer excellent opportunities to achieve well rounded development. CIHTs events keep our members well informed about emerging trends and challenges in the transportation sector, and adaptable to industry changes. Please see our CIHT Events page for more information.
Volunteering with CIHT can be rewarding and interesting and it is vital to supporting professionalism in highways and transportation. All volunteer roles and activities can be considered as CPD. See our new Volunteer hub for more information and inspiration.
CIHTs Mentoring platform is designed to help you to connect with potential mentees or mentors and get the best out of a mentoring relationship. The first step is to register on the CIHT Mentoring platform. All mentoring activity can be considered CPD.
CPD submissions are reviewed by members of the CIHT CPD Panel, who are trained and experienced CIHT members who volunteer their time to assess records and provide constructive feedback.
We asked the panel what they expect to see in a good CPD record and Development Action Plan. They gave the following advice:
A good CPD record should include a variety of CPD activities with some CPD on the topic of transport decarbonisation. Activities should clearly align with the members personal and professional development goals, be relevant to the member’s role and to industry best practice and standards.
Both CPD records and DAPs should show evidence of reflection (i.e., how your past, present or future learning has influenced your work practices and development or professional growth). Thoughtful reflection only strengthens your ongoing learning and helps to demonstrate how new skills or knowledge are being or will be applied in practice.
Good CPD records should demonstrate regular engagement in CPD activities throughout the year.
Members should aim to produce comprehensive CPD and DAP records that detail the nature, duration, and learning outcomes of each CPD activity (both undertaken and planned). CIHT Learn is a great tool for CIHT members as it provides text fields for all the information that CPD reviewers look for in CPD and DAP submissions.
We asked Dr Neil Hoose, CPD Panel Chair, to emphasise the significance of planned and structured CPD; whether selected for the CPD review or not
Neil says:
We live in a rapidly changing world where new challenges and solutions arise every day. CPD is an essential process for professionals to maintain and develop their expertise. The CIHT CPD process encourages and enables members to identify and prioritise both their learning goals and the associated training activities, in holistic and structured way.
