The so called ‘AirCar’ set off from an airport at Nitra and landed in Bratislava, 35 minutes away. This follows 142 test flights made to date.
After landing at Bratislava, the dual mode vehicle was transformed into a sports car and driven away in under three minutes.
It is said that the flying car could cut journey times between the centre of the two cities, which are 83km apart, by as much as half.
The prototype vehicle features a 160hp fixed propeller engine and a ballistic parachute. It has flown at 8200ft and can reach a top speed of 170km/h. A second generation model is expected to be fitted with a 300hp engine, cruise at 300km/h and have a range of 1000km.
“This flight starts a new era of dual transportation vehicles,” says AirCar inventor Professor Stefan Klein. “It opens a new category of transportation and returns the freedom originally attributed to cars back to the individual.”
