CIHT's Apprentice of the Year Award celebrates the achievements of apprentices who work in the highways and transportation sector, and the organisations that put them at the heart of their business.

CIHT received dozens of applications for the 2020 awards, which came from some of the best and brightest apprentices within the sector. It was challenging to shortlist only five finalists from the outstanding applications and CIHT would like to thank all the apprentices who made applications and all those who contributed to their development.

The five shortlisted apprentices are:

  • Vickie Bathe, Apprentice Civil Engineer, FM Conway
  • Lewis Dowling, Civil Engineering Tech Apprentice, Mott Macdonald
  • Aaron Frater, Transport Planning Apprentice, Mott Macdonald
  • Anya Grainger, Engineering Technician, Taylor Woodrow
  • Jack Scott, Apprentice Engineer, WSP

Deborah Sims, Vice President, CIHT said:

“The CIHT National Apprentice of the Year Award is a great opportunity for apprentices across the UK to showcase their knowledge, skills and talent, while affording them the opportunity to win unique and coveted prizes.

“All of the finalists for the CIHT Apprentice of the Year Award were well prepared, enthusiastic and highly professional in their approach to the event. The presentations highlighted how the potential benefits and opportunities alongside the problems and difficulties we have all experienced with Covid-19.”

“Judging the award was an enjoyable, engaging and positive experience and selecting this shortlist was incredibly difficult. We wish all the Apprentices who entered this competition all the very best in their future careers, judging by the finalists, our industry is in very safe hands.”

The winner of the CIHT Apprentice of the Year Award will be announced at the start of the CIHT Young Professional Festival of Learning – taking place between 19 – 23 October.

CIHT’s Young Professional Festival of Learning will take place online across 5 Days, and will include Inspiring Webinars, Live Workshops, Masterclasses and so much more. Find out more here.
