Professionals recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours – announced on Friday – include four Network Rail employees promoting diversity, supporting colleagues’ mental health and for local charity work.

Engagement lead Rajinder Pryor from London becomes an MBE for services to diversity and inclusion in the rail sector. She works with the Women in Rail group to promote diversity and has raised awareness about domestic abuse during Covid.
John Sidebotham from the West Midlands receives a British Empire Medal for services to wellbeing during the pandemic, which recognises his work to encourage trust, collaboration and inclusion.
Danny Hawkins from Kent receives a BEM for his work with local schools and charities in Ebbsfleet, including devising a programme to help children stay safe near the railway.
Also receiving a BEM is Simon Lloyd from East Lothian for services to cycling and charity. He has restored over 300 unwanted bicycles over the last 15 years, giving them to charities, schools and people returning to work after being homeless.
In the highways sector, the AA’s managing director of roadside Gareth Kirkwood is appointed an OBE for services to road transport during the pandemic.
Campaigner and De Montfort University academic Meera Naran is appointed an MBE for services to road safety after lobbying the Government to make smart motorways safer.
Lauren Doherty from North Yorkshire is also awarded a British Empire Medal for services to education for her initiative ‘Road Safety Talks’, as is the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service’s senior planning officer Alwyn Warnock for services to road safety.
Living Streets’ president emeritus Terence Bendixson is awarded an OBE for services to walking. He has been involved in what was previously known as the Pedestrians’ Association for around 50 years.
