Delivering Sustainable Development & Sustainable Transport
The purpose of the planning system is to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development. Currently, it could be argued that the planning system is not delivering some of the sustainable transport outcomes required. Changes to the planning process are likely to be presented this year so this survey seeks the views of practitioners as to both the problems and the potential solutions.
The Government has asked for evidence to support any changes to the current system so the results of this survey could provide the vital evidence for the three professional bodies (CIHT, TPS & RTPI) to act and contribute to policy change.

Green & Blue Infrastructure Survey
CIHT is developing a policy piece to provide support to the transport sector in delivering Green-Blue Infrastructure (GBI) to promote healthy streets and enhance city resilience, while also encouraging the thinking of delivering streets as places.
GBI refers to the use of green components (such as trees, vegetation, forests, fields, parks) and blue-water - components (such as ponds, wetlands, floodplains, rain gardens, water treatment facilities) to create a strategically planned network of natural and semi-natural areas, with other environmental features designed and managed to deliver a wide range of ecosystem services (improved air quality, biodiversity, water quality, flood resilience and more). GBI can often provide more benefits at lower cost than single-purpose grey infrastructure.
The aim of this survey is to capture the perspective of the highways and transportation sector towards GBI and understand our members’ willingness to implement GBI.
