Reflect on Your Continuing Professional Development

Reflecting on the CPD activities you have undertaken, enables you to consider your learnt experiences and how you can apply what you have learned to support your practical work, and meet your personal and professional objectives.

You can use CIHT Learn to plan, record and reflect on your CPD activities.

The new CPD Guide is designed to make your CPD journey more convenient and accessible. It provides advice and guidance on what is expected of you as a CIHT member, how to plan, record and reflect on your CPD, and the support available from CIHT. This guide also sets out the new expectation that all CIHT members should focus some of their CPD on decarbonisation from January 2023.

What is CPD Reflection?

Reflective practice in regards to your CPD activities, is the process by which you analyse your CPD activities to identify links between your activities and their impact on your personal and professional life. Undertaking a reflective CPD practice enables you to identify knowledge gaps and helps you modify your actions and behaviour so you can meet your objectives more easily.
Reflection is an important part of the CPD process, as the knowledge and skills needed to practice can change together with your career ambitions.  This process assists you to look at whether you are fulfilling your learning needs and meeting your professional goals.

You can reflect on and evaluate your CPD in the same way that you benefit from looking back at a project to think about what you have learnt and how you can tailor this in the future to adapt your prospective plans.

Reflecting on your Development Action Plan

Regularly evaluating your Development Action Plan can assist in ensuring that your objectives reflect the skills and knowledge that you need to competently practice, remain up-to-date with current or new practices, and meet your career aspirations. Use this in conjunction with reflecting on your CPD Activities Record at frequent intervals, can help you to check that the activities that you have undertaken will meet your short, medium and long-term objectives.
