Join CIHT for this masterclass on sustainable transport, showcasing celebrated entries to the 2024 and 2025 CIHT Creating Better Places and Sustainability awards.
You will hear presentations from:
The Liverpool City Centre Connectivity (LCCC) project, valued at £54 million, was a comprehensive programme of works managed and designed by Amey in collaboration with Liverpool City Council. Across seven sites, it revolutionised movement opportunities within the city centre by creating new public spaces, cycle routes, blue-green infrastructure, and reconfiguring bus networks. A people first approach meant road space was repurposed from cars to prioritise pedestrians, cyclists, and buses. The project’s alignment with five UN Sustainable Development Goals underscored its commitment to people and the environment. Winner of the CIHT Creating places award in 2024, LCCC exemplifies how seamless integration of engineering and architecture can address contemporary societal challenges while respecting local heritage.
The Interchange project transformed Ryde’s Esplanade by prioritising pedestrians, enhancing bus connectivity, and refurbishing/increasing public spaces. The design tackled vehicle dominance and unsafe bus manoeuvres, and solutions to enhance the public realm for all users including shared / segregated spaces for cyclists. The results include safer and more accessible space, more efficient and connected travel and improved community well-being.
School Streets restrict vehicle access to streets around schools in the borough during school drop-off and pick-up times. This temporary closure aims to help reduce road danger on the road, improve air quality and increase active travel to school, creating a safer and more pleasant environment at the school gates. Lambeth’s current programme is implementing School Streets at every suitable primary school in the borough. School Streets Plus is an addition programme focusing on public realm changes outside schools.
This masterclass is open to all CIHT members, CIHT partner employees and non-members. This masterclass is free for all CIHT Members to attend and is charged for CIHT Partner Employees and non-members.
