Highways UK is the flagship event for the people and organisations involved in the planning, designing, building, operating and future-proofing of the UK's road network. It took place at the NEC, Birmingham on 7/8 November 2018.
The event comprised a multi-stream conference combined with a major exhibition.

Louise McCann
General Manager, KierWSP
Louise started her career in London Underground and became Station Planning Manager there. Then in WSP she undertook a variety of roles firstly in transport planning and then moved into the highway maintenance arena working for the CarillionWSP joint venture in Highways England Area 12 in Yorkshire and Humberside.

Next Louise joined Amey to act as Principal Operations and Construction Manager for their Highways England contract in West Midlands Area 9. She has been delivering her current role for Kier since 2012 as General Manager for the KierWSP joint venture providing a wide range of highways and transport services to Northamptonshire County Council. She is also General Manager for Nordis Signs a supported business manufacturing traffic signs.
Melanie Clarke
Customer Service Director, Highways England
Mel’s early career as a manager working for the Tribunal Service paved the way for a new career in roads, starting as an Operations Manager with Highways England. Her career progressed within traffic operations, stepping up to act as Executive Director for customer operations and leading Highways England’s 365 day 24/7 national traffic operation.

Her career progressed within traffic operations, stepping up to act as Executive Director for customer operations and leading Highways England’s 365 day 24/7 national traffic operation.
As well as leading customer operations, Mel also sponsored the continued professional development of the customer experience group, who delivered the company’s published Customer Service Strategy. On completing her part in leading the re-organisation, she took up her current role as Customer Service Director in Highways England.
Jodie Rowbottom
Head of Development, Birmingham Airport
Jodie began her career in Highways England, in 2004, as a Regional Control Centre Operator progressing to Team Manager and then Operations Manager by 2009. Jodie was seconded into the Smart Motorway Programme where she provided operational support and guidance to regional schemes across the country.

Jodie continued working with the Traffic Officer Service and Highways England Major projects schemes until she commenced a new role with London Midland Rail as a Project Manager in 2014.
Jodie is responsible for the management and delivery of the capital programme comprising of asset renewal, Safety, Security, capacity increasing and customer improvement projects. Jodie joined the West Midlands CIHT in 2012 and has been a key member of the committee group and champions the diversity agenda in Transportation, Engineering, and Project Management.
Nicola Blaney
Senior Engineer, Jacobs
Nicola commenced her career in Edinburgh with Halcrow’s Performance Audit Group, while studying Civil Enigineering at Strathclyde University. Post-graduation, in 2008, she worked in the north east of England with Halcrow’s transport planning team.

Then returned to Scotland to work on the M74 junction designs and feasibility studies for sections of the National Cycle Network.
In 2011, Nicola was a key team member of the National Roads Maintenance Review. This involved in depth stakeholder engagement and an international review of best practice from the rest of the UK and around the globe.
Following a number of secondments to Transport Scotland, local government and the 2014 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, Nicola managed the delivery of the Games Route Network in Glasgow on behalf of CH2M. Nicola gained her Chartered Engineer status in 2014 and has lead a package of work on three of the A9 Dualling Perth to Inverness Projects since this time.
