This technical site visit presents the project background and scope of works, innovation initiatives to provide a safer and higher productivity while comparing the old fashioned road maintenance works.
Queries such as the practicality, cost, efficiency and safety of those innovation initiatives could bring to us may be raised at the visit.
07/HY/2021 is a 5-years maintenance term contract from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2027. The works mainly comprise the management and maintenance of public roads, including associated slopes, highway structures, landscaping and minor improvement works, in Tai Po and North Districts excluding Expressways and High Speed Roads. Daily tasks include road cleaning, grass cutting, structures and roads inspection.
Several innovative ideas are adopted in this term contract for better efficiency and higher safety standard, these include:
The Highways Department (HyD) is responsible for the maintenance of public roads and associated facilities, e.g. roadside slopes/retaining walls, highway structures, public lighting facilities, street furniture, under its purview, and is also responsible for the maintenance of vegetation on HyD's slopes and within the expressway boundary. Apart from ensuring the serviceability of highway facilities and safeguarding the safety of road users through regular inspections for the timely arrangement of appropriate maintenance works, they also strive for enhancing the qualities of road pavement and facilities through continual improvements.
Mr. Gary Kwong is currently the Construction Manager of Gammon Construction Limited. He is also the project manager in charge of the Highways Maintenance Contract (Contract No. 08/HY/2021) and has been driving the innovation initiatives since the contract commencement in 2022.

This technical visit is targeted to civil and transport engineers of all grades.
The sharing will be conducted in Chinese and online registration is required. The number of participants is limited to 20 and applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. Priority will be given to Members of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (HK). Deadline for registration is 28 November 2023.
