The CIHT Transportation Professional of the Year celebrates individuals who have made an excellent contribution to the Highways and Transportation sector. There were many outstanding entries for this year’s award with inspiration and innovation being highlighted at all levels, showing that CIHT values are strongly intertwined in the great work taking place to better improve and change our sector. CIHT are pleased to announce this year’s Transportation Professional of the Year as Lynda Addison OBE.

The judges felt that Lynda was a deserving recipient for the award due to her commitment to better transport planning. She has worked tirelessly to promote the role of planning in creating sustainable communities that meet the needs of those that live in them and wider social, economic and environmental aims. The breadth and depth of Lynda's leadership contribution is demonstrated by her commitment to producing CIHT advice, influencing government and professional achievements.

Lynda is a Fellow of CIHT and chairs its sustainable transport panel and is the immediate past chair of the Transport Planning Society. Over the last two years, Lynda has worked tirelessly to develop CIHT led advice to help those engaged in developing places to make sure that transport has been considered as a fundamental part of the planning process. She has pulled together a steering group containing the leading professional bodies and key practitioners in the area and has engaged across government departments to ensure that the importance of this is understood. In that time frame she has also worked determinedly to develop the case for the Transport Planning professional qualification to achieve Chartered status.

Her desire to develop better ways of working encourages those working with her to cross sector boundaries and produce work that puts people at the heart of developments and infrastructure. Her contribution to the sector by her voluntary work for CIHT and TPS is exemplary and she seeks to continually improve the way the professional sector works for public benefit.

Lynda demonstrates all of CIHT's values. She is professional in the way she works within the profession and externally. She recognises and encourages diversity of approach in her work, seeking to develop places that work for everyone. She is collaborative, involving a range of professional bodies and contributors from different parts of the sector to produce better outputs. She is progressive and works innovatively to make positive change in the sector.
