Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of signing up to the new Charter?

Signing the Charter gives you:

  • Credibility as an organisation genuinely committed to progressing EDI in practice - with your clients, suppliers, staff and customers.
  • A level of professionalism and accountability with regards to shifting the dial on EDI
  • Access to the CIHT EDI Charter logo – a demonstration of your ongoing commitment to EDI in action
  • Access to CIHT’s EDI Charter Signatory Peer Support Network – a network with organisations to share your progress and learn from best practice within the EDI landscape.

What differentiates CIHT’s EDI Charter from others?

  • CIHT takes a supportive approach to shifting the dial on EDI – through sharing resources, giving signatories autonomy and enabling flexibility in their approach to EDI.
  • We are avoiding being prescriptive and are reducing tick-box administration for signatory organisations.
  • We encourage organisations to sign up and demonstrate their genuine commitment to EDI in action.

How do we sign up?

Contact Emma Carruthers, EDI Manager, CIHT at Emma.Carruthers@ciht.org.uk

What are the key stages in receiving CIHT EDI Charter Status?

  1. Contact us via Emma Carruthers, EDI Manager, CIHT Emma.Carruthers@ciht.org.uk
  2. We will send you:- CIHT’s EDI Charter commitment statement and Self-reflection template
  3. Once you submit the above, we will give you access to: CIHT’s EDI Charter Signatory Peer Support Network and CIHT’s EDI Charter logo
  4. Annual renewal of our EDI Charter is required to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to meaningful EDI progress in action.

We are already signed up to the original Charter, what should we do?

  • As our updated Charter requires annual renewal to retain Charter status, it depends how long you have been signed up.
  • Contact Emma Carruthers, EDI Manager, CIHT via Emma.Carruthers@ciht.org.uk for more information.

What is the retention period for CIHT EDI Charter status?

  • As we are supporting greater accountability and transparency from signatories, we are encouraging signatories to renew their Charter status annually.
  • Signatories will be asked to complete our Self-reflection template including sharing examples of further EDI progress in action. We will work with signatories to highlight examples of relevant activity that should be included.

How do we access the Self-reflection template?

Once you have contacted us we will send you:

  • CIHT’s EDI Charter Commitment Statement
  • Self-reflection template

Once you submit these, we will give you access to CIHT’s EDI Charter Signatory Peer Support Network and EDI Charter logo.

My organisation does not have a dedicated EDI resource, and we are not sure where to start in terms of sharing examples of EDI progress in action – what next?

  • We have purposefully avoided being too prescriptive in our approach as we acknowledge that not all organisations have dedicated resources.
  • We can provide some guidance as to what examples could include; eg, from a headline EDI strategy (strategy document, link or summary) to projects and initiatives, anonymised and aggregated diversity data and more – demonstrating and celebrating progress that other signatories can learn from.
  • Sharing examples demonstrates your commitment to progressing EDI and can support organisations across the sector to learn from best practice.

How do we keep in touch?

We will maintain a database of signatories; executive EDI leads and evidence of EDI progress in action. We will invite signatories to access CIHT’s EDI Charter Signatory Peer Support Network, attend EDI-related events, training and more – all supporting you to shift the dial on EDI.
