Doha, February 2019: CIHT Qatar Group organized a technical seminar for Highways and Transportation professionals on “Implementing Lean Construction in Ashghal”.

Mr. Don Ward (Chief Executive-Constructing Excellence in Qatar) and Ms. Jenefer Alam (Associate Director, Parsons Brinkerhoff) were guest speakers.

Constructing Excellence in Qatar is a partnership of Ashghal with Constructing Excellence in the UK. The purpose of this partnership is to capture and share best practices and innovation for the improvement of Qatar construction sector in support of Qatar’s National Vision 2030.

Mr. Ward gave an introduction on the work of Constructing Excellence in Qatar and highlighted the importance of identifying what works and sharing it widely in Qatar to improve the performance and profile of construction. He went on to explain Ashghal’s corporate strategy, current pipeline of projects, and the new contractual Key Performance Indicators (KPI): Health and Safety, Project Delivery, Stakeholders engagement, Quality, Environment and sustainability.

In the second session of the seminar, Ms. Jenefer Alam gave a detailed insight into Ashghal’s strategy for Lean Construction, She compared global construction stats with Qatar’s constructions stats which indicated that there are major opportunities for productivity improvements. Ms Alam then described how Ashghal is progressing with Lean Construction plans, and described Ashghal’s construction ‘Enhancement Journey’ from 2017 to the present day. Ms Alam also gave an excellent introduction to Lean Construction, Tools, Techniques, Principles and Benefits.

The presentation was well received by the audience, with a detailed question and answer session following the main presentation. This seminar is part of CIHT Qatar Group’s events.
