From the Chair

Stewart Knowles, SoRSA Chair

Well it appears that we are getting back to some kind of new normal, a term I think we will all be sick of hearing over the next 12 months.  Highways England and other strategic and local authorities have now confirmed that all relaxations on RSAs have been lifted but as we will start making our way back to sites, please stay safe.

Thank you to all of you that joined this year's Annual General Meeting - it was great to see a good turnout.  It's also nice to see some new faces on the committee and also some that are returning 'home'.  Again, thank you to those that have stepped down after successful stints.

In the last newsletter I mentioned that we had been working hard to come up with alternative ways of how you can achieve your two days of CPD this year following the postponement of our annual conference.

Hopefully you will have now seen that we have produced a Members Advice Note for CPD During COVID19In addition, we also started our monthly CPD presentations in July with Max Brown and Peter Whitfield presenting a Smart Motorway masterclass.  We had 305 people attend the session and we had some great feedback.  The very next day our own Eric Hill presented to the CIHT Scottish Branch on Road Safety Audit, and again we got amazing numbers - this time with 367 attendees.  I am proud of the reach SoRSA is gaining and grateful to our wonderful speakers for spending the time.  Presentations will continue each month until December and next up is Crash Course – How it happens about the factors that often conspire together to result in road traffic collisions - sign up here.

At the AGM I also mentioned that we had set up a working group to look at Membership and how we can improve the quality of Road Safety Audits.  We will be able to report back progress over the next few months.

As always, we love to hear your views.  If you have anything to tell us please contact us either via email sorsa@ciht.org.uk or on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/groups/3680444/

Road Safety Auditor CV Submission

Following feedback from Highways England on the content and quality of some of the C.V.s they have received. Lyn, Your overworked membership secretary, has produced some guidance on what is required to help ensure your C.V. meets Highways England (and others) requirements.

SoRSA Scottish event

Once again SoRSA is planning an event in Scotland. Restrictions allowing, we are proposing a two day event in October, giving delegates the options to attend one or both days. Course fees are still to be agreed but we intend to give discounts to CIHT and SoRSA members. In the event that restrictions may not be lifted in time there are plans to make this a virtual event.

Details will follow as soon as they are agreed, but for the most up to date information check Linkedin.
