Cork City Council is a large urban local authority with over 1,500 employees across over 40 locations.  There are 31 Elected Members of the Council representing the five wards in the City.  The Council has an annual revenue budget of approximately €325 million (2025) and provides a wide and diverse range of public services. It also delivers a broad range of capital projects and works in close collaboration with other state agencies in the delivery of new / improved infrastructure. The Council is committed to increasing its capacity and capability to deliver improved public service and facilities.

Infrastructure investment in Cork has increased significantly in line with the planned population and jobs growth set out in the National Planning Framework. The City Council is seeking to recruit additional professional/technical staff with appropriate experience and skills to deliver the expanded programme of infrastructure projects. The Council is now inviting applications for the position of Senior Engineer in the area of Infrastructure Development.

The Senior Engineer will be required to deliver such technical and ancillary services of an advisory, supervisory, or executive nature as may be required by Cork City Council in the exercise and performance of its powers, functions and duties. This shall include technical and managerial support, engagement with external agencies and support for the democratic process.

The Senior Engineer will report to their appropriate line manager (usually a Director of Services), assist the management team as may be required and work with the elected members in respect of their role and to attend/present at council meetings and committee meetings if required. They may also be required to deputise for the Director of Services as necessary.
