Record Your Continuing Professional Development

Record your CPD activity

Recording your CPD is a way to help demonstrate your competence to practice by illustrating how you have ensured that your skills and knowledge have been kept up-to-date.  It also offers the opportunity to define and track that you are meeting your individual career aspirations.

You can record your CPD in any form you choose and supplement this with supporting documents.

Your CPD activities record should include any relevant new learning which meets your proposed objectives. This involves a continuous cycle to plan, act, record and reflect on your CPD:

  • Plan – referring to what you planned to develop and how this relates to your Professional Development Plan (PDP)
  • Act – details of the activities you have undertaken
  • Record - the number of CPD hours and details of your CPD
  • Reflect - upon the knowledge and skills that you have gained and analyse your progress towards your PDP objectives

Your CPD should be recorded for each year ideally from 1st January until 31st December.  CIHT recommend that our members should hold CPD records for at least 6 years.

If you are a CIHT member you can record your CPD and develop your PDP using a system called mycareerpath.

MyCareerPath is an on-line system that CIHT members can use to record their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.
MyCareerPath can also be used by those working towards a professional qualification (EngTech, IEng, CEng or TPP) to record evidence of Initial Professional Development against the relevant competency standards.
