The presentation will cover various aspects of design and construction of the new A533 Expressway Replacement Bridge in Runcorn, Cheshire.
Covering the challenges faced by the integrated team, consisting of National Highways, Amey, Sir Robert McAlpine and WSP, this presentation will look at how these challenges were overcome, including the offline construction of the composite deck and its placement by SPMT, the accommodation of numerous services and more.
This presentation will be of particular interest to structures (bridges), highways and construction professionals, however, this is a wide-ranging presentation that will appeal to a wider audience.
Kareem Abusmeihah graduated with an MEng in Civil and Structural Engineering from the University of Leeds and is currently a Principal Civil Engineer working as part of the Amey & Amey Sir Robert McAlpine (ASRM) structures design teams.
Kareem is a chartered engineer (member of the CIHT and ICE) and has over 16 years of experience, focused on structural design, assessment, and inspection. Kareem led the ASRM structures design team in the delivery of 2No. new bridge schemes associated with National Highway’s Regional Investment Programme, one of these being the subject of this presentation – the A533 Expressway Bridge Replacement. He is a Lean Practitioner and is motivated by combining process improvement with innovative and efficient design.
Rebecca Brown graduated from the University of Sheffield with a first-class MEng (hons) degree and is currently a Civil Engineer in the Amey & Amey Sir Robert McAlpine (ASRM) structures design teams.
Rebecca is a Chartered Civil Engineer (Member of the ICE) and has over six years of post-graduate experience in structural design & assessment. She was the deputy design lead for the detailed design of the replacement A533 Expressway Bridge and is now undertaking the role of Structures Designer’s Site Representative during the construction phase.
Chris Buckley has 25 years’ experience of heavy civil engineering contracting experience within various civil engineering contractor organisations delivering highways/rail schemes and concrete frame structures for Education and Healthcare sectors.
