What you’ll be doing:

Working at the forefront of our vibrant Transport team you will play a vital role in managing the development and delivery of high quality highway infrastructure schemes to improve road safety, accessibility, active travel and public transport. You will also lead on the delivery of statutory Council responsibilities in support of sustainable growth, social inclusion and accessibility. 

The post will require a person with experience in developing, delivering and managing active travel schemes, high quality and cost-effective highway improvement schemes including road safety active travel, and public transport projects. A high degree of flexibility, creativity and a positive forward-thinking attitude is required. We have a far-reaching Transport vision and a commitment to delivering safety improvements across our transport network in this exciting role. You will need good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal with the public in difficult circumstances, be self-motivated, willing to learn and the ability to manage workloads.

We particularly welcome applicants who have previous experience in working on and leading high profile and high priority projects that focused on reducing casualties, improved traffic flow and increased the use of sustainable modes of transport including e-scooters, walking and cycling.
If you have a sound knowledge of travel behavioural change, traffic, highway design principles and standards, ability to analyse technical data to design schemes, ability to identify and respond to the political context advising members, lead commissioners or directors where necessary then we would welcome an application from you.
